NetNames get their Senior Team Leaders together from around the world once every quarter. This is an important opportunity to plan ahead and co-ordinate the priorities and tackle the current issues in the business. I was invited to bring some leadership expertise from the world of adventure sports to the day, to encourage and inspire some creative thinking about how we manage and lead our teams in challenging situations and harsh environments.
Here’s what Gary McIlraith (Net Names CEO) had to say about the day:
‘Martin gave a great presentation to our 35-person senior leadership team, drawing parallels between his experiences in mountaineering and the decisions that we have to make every day in business. It was challenging, thought-provoking and hugely entertaining. People were buzzing by the end. From my point of view, it was exactly what we were looking for and I appreciate you taking the care to tailor the session to our company and previous activities we have covered.’
Many people deliver this sort of session, but not so many have direct experience of applying the leadership models in real life. Combining the skills of a Mountain Guide, with my experience of managing teams and being a director on several boards, gives me an empathy and understanding of the needs of the whole business team.
