British Cycling hold a world class tutor training event every year, which is mandatory CPD for their dynamic team of tutors and coach educators.
With a leading reputation for coach education and coaching scheme development, I was invited to deliver some inspirational sessions to encourage the British Cycling team to think differently. We focussed on how we structure practice sessions for learners, to ensure our coaching sessions are more than just an inspiring performance. I have always felt the challenge in our work is how we relate it back to long term development, and file what we have learned for future challenges, new situations.
We then made use of Pete Catterall (my head of paddlesports at Plas y Brenin and UK Freestyle Kayak Coach at the time) to deliver some world class coaching out on the water. For all coach educators, it is great to be on the receiving end now and again, and remind ourselves what it is like to be at the base of the learning curve!
The sessions were well received, and strengthened the relationship between Britsh Cycling and Plas y Brenin as a result. PyB is now one of just three accredited delivery centres for British Cycling’s MTB Leadership Awards, and the PyB coaching team and expertise have been instrumental in developing new awards and coaching modules for British Cycling ever since
